Famished from a long walk during on warm fall day, we stopped at Modavie for a bite to eat. Modavie is a French inspired restaurant established in 1997 located in the Old Port of Montreal. Although they are known to be a great “wine bar”, as Gin enthusiasts, we obviously could not refuse a good Pink Pepper G&T.

To the brick walls, the authentic posters and the wooden furniture, the style of this restaurant submerges you into a Parisian bistro. Between our cocktails and Edith Piaf, let’s just say we definitely saw “la vie en rose“.

The GOOD

• From the hostesses to the waiters, the service is impeccable
• We highly recommend the lamb poutine as an appetizer. Let’s just say it will most probably be one of the best poutines you eat in Montreal
• Warm bread is served with your cocktail. Modavie definitely nailed the bread in terms of consistency, texture and taste
• The well-balanced cocktails have just the right amount of alcohol
• The French inspired music is at the perfect volume, allowing you to have a conversation with your fellow friends, date or family. Let’s face it, there’s nothing more annoying than screaming at each other when trying to enjoy a nice drink

To keep in mind

• Although the lamb poutine is an entrée, there was enough for two. We recommend sharing the poutine especially if you are planning on taking a main – it’s quite hefty.
• Like any other restaurant in the Old Port, Modavie is situated quite far from the Metro. Plan ahead as it’s a good 10 minute walk form the Place d’Armes metro.
• This restaurant is obviously not a bring your own wine, however their wine “connaissance” is like no other. The staff would be glad to help you try something new and delectable.

Overview

Ambiance – Old Parisian bistro with charming music and warm lighting.
Food – Delicious. We definitely told ourselves that we HAD to be back for a full supper.
Price – they range from reasonable to higher end (a main can cost between 20$ – 50$). Ask your waiter if they have the Table d’Hôte as it seems to be most advantageous price wise. Click here for the full menu.
Accessibility – Accessible by public transport, but a good walk is needed. Parking is always expensive ($) and hard to find in the Old Port.

Modavie

Modavie est un restaurant du Vieux Port de Montréal établi en 1997. Il se trouve au croisement des deux rues les plus mythiques de la ville, sur St Paul et St Laurent.
C’est un restaurant dans lequel nous sommes passés le temps d’une collation, pour boire un cocktail. Bien qu’ils ne soient pas spécialisés la dedans, leur Gin Tonic au poivre rose est excellent.
A l’intérieur, le restaurant a des airs d’anciennes usines réutilisées qu’on retrouve assez régulièrement dans le Vieux Port de Montréal. La musique française d’époque, entre Piaf et Aznavour, vous plongera elle dans les rues de Paris.

LES PLUS

• Service très professionnel, entre l’hôtesse à l’accueil et l’équipe de serveur, vous vous sentirez pris en charge pendant tout votre repas
• La poutine à l’agneau est surement une des meilleure poutine que vous mangerez à Montréal
• Apéritif servis avec du pain chaud. Il est d’ailleurs excellent, et rien de tel qu’un bon morceau de pain pour apprécier un cocktail idéalement équilibré
• Ambiance cosy/chic, entre vues sur les rues du Vieux Port de Montréal et musique typiquement française, votre expérience culinaire vous fera voyager.

A GARDER EN TÊTE

• Comme la majeure partie du Vieux Port, le restaurant est assez éloigné du métro de plus, il n’est pas toujours simple d’y trouver du stationnement.
• Bien qu’elle ne paraisse pas très copieuse, la poutine sera suffisante pour deux personnes en entrée

En Résumé

Ambiance – Chaleureuse, Modavie vous plonge dans l’ambiance d’une brasserie parisienne de quartier.
Bouffe – Excellente, nous n’avons pu essayer que la poutine, mais c’est définitivement une des meilleures poutine que j’ai mangé sur Montréal. Vous trouverez plus de détail sur leur menu
Prix – Les prix sont raisonnables pour un restaurant du Vieux Port. C’est à dire légèrement au dessus de la moyenne.
Accessibilité – Difficulté pour trouver du stationnement dans les rues du Vieux Port, privilégiez le déplacement en transport en commun.
